Banging Butterflies Update

It’s not every week I’m able to get a lot of work done on the mod. This week, as well as implementing new features, I’ve been tackling a strange bug with the Peacemaker Butterfly’s movement. As yet, I’ve been unable to determine the cause, so it’s not an easy fix to make.

Peacemaker Honey

I’m adding a food item for Peacemaker Butterflies: Peacemaker Honey. With this special honey you’ll be able to tame Peacemaker Butterflies and even have them defend you. They won’t follow you around, but at least you’ll be safe from their attacks.

For now you won’t be able to obtain this item in survival, but creative players will have access to it. A new way to milk it will be added soon. If you’ve ever watched Peacemaker, you already know where this is going!

Fly, Fly Away!

There’s a bug with the Peacemaker Butterflies movement that has been happening ever since they were added. For some reason they will fly off into the sky at insane speeds. From observing them this usually occurs when they attack something, but I’ve seen it happen without as well.

I’ve been trying to figure this one out, since the other butterflies seem to have a similar problem. To get around this I implemented a pretty nasty hack, which seems to smooth things over, but doesn’t actually fix anything.

So I’ve finally decided to figure out what is happening and after some debugging I’ve found that the cause involves a friction algorithm within the game’s code:

At the time of writing I haven’t managed to figure out exactly what is happening here, but it’s a step closer and I’m hoping I can have a real fix for this one soon.
