Death of the Android Race

The Space Crew fight their way across Alpha Centauri against androids left behind by the Phasmids wiped out near Earth. Seeking revenge for the death of their creators, the androids are a threat to humanity’s colonies in a new solar system.

Space Crew’s second campaign sees you take on a new enemy: Androids that can live and breathe in space. I talked about the new challenges introduced by the campaign in a previous post. There isn’t much more to say about the campaign beyond that.

The campaign plays out almost the same as the previous campaign after that. You have to destroy the Android’s base, and part of it escapes. This turns out to be a base-destroying superweapon that you have to scan for weaknesses during a risky mission. Its superweapon can hit you and it will go straight through your shields.

Of course, the final battle is to destroy this superweapon before it can destroy the human’s base. After playing through several missions and having a fully upgraded crew and ship, this battle is fairly trivial to win.

The end of the Android campaign is a little underwhelming compared to the end of the Phasmid campaign. There’s nothing that compares to the sacrifice you are forced to make at the end. While the overall story is a nice sequel, it would have been nice if the final battle had some kind of twist so it could go out with more of a bang.

Still, it’s fun to play through the campaign again and having to take into account the differences in the new enemy you face. I do really enjoy this game, and having extra missions to play through is always a bonus. If there’s ever a third campaign I’ll be one of the first to play it.

I haven’t quite completed the game. There are still some achievements I need in order to do that. Looking at them they don’t seem that difficult, so perhaps I’ll work on that so I can add another game to my “fully completed” list.
