First Day Exploring Dalat

Leaving Mui Ne felt like an escape. After a long and uncomfortable bus ride, I arrived in Dalat, a mountain town in southern Vietnam. I found my way to my hotel, which turned out to be a spare apartment within a larger home. After settling in, I went out to explore this town for the first time.

It was a short walk to the Xuan Huong Lake that the town is built around. The sun was setting as I walked down, so I got to see it lit up for the night time. Lights from the city reflected in the lake as I walked around.

The town center was on the opposite side of the lake, so I decided to walk around it. On my way I found a small market, so of course I stopped for a drink. It may have been night time by this point, but it was still warm and I needed some hydration. From beer, of course.

This is a town proud of its art, and it is on display everywhere. Coffee shops had impressive neon displays that would rival houses lit up for Christmas back in England. Even the roundabouts had impressively lit sculptures on display.

Eventually I made it to Dalat Night Market in the main town, where there were a huge number of makeshift restaurants. I found one that proudly displayed that it was once visited by a famous celebrity. I had no idea who he was, but I figured if he liked it, then I probably would too.

After filling up on noodles and beer I continued exploring, and found a small nook where people were playing traditional Vietnamese music. I enjoyed listening to the xylophone-like instruments for a while, but when my beer started getting low, I left to seek out more.

The town center was bustling, with people moving around place to place. Some sat on the steps enjoying a drink, others explored the markets trying to find a good deal. I had decided on other plans for the rest of the night, however.

I had heard of a maze-like bar in the city, and it was close by according to the map. So, as I was in search of a beer anyway, I left the market to find this strange bar.
