South of Dalat there is a place hidden within the woods. It is a garden filled with wooden walkways, benches and sculptures representing the local flora and fauna. Stepping through the gate feels like stepping into a Wonderland, though there is no white rabbit to follow here.
The Secret Garden is about ten minutes drive south of Dalat. Nearby there is a viewing spot by the Tuyen Lam Lake where you can leave your bike. Finding the Secret Garden from here was tricky, but you can start by following a drain from the lake back up to the north.

If you get back onto the road you will learn the Secret Garden’s biggest secret. It’s that it isn’t so secretive, with a sign clearly indicating the entrance to the garden. It costs a small amount to get a ticket (unfortunately I can’t remember the price).

Inside you will find a small river surrounded by carefully placed rocks and trees. Wooden bridges span the river, many leading to secluded spots where you can sit down and enjoy some Vietnamese coffee or ice cream.

There are even some spaces to start a fire so you can enjoy the scenery even on colder days, as well as sheltered areas for anyone visiting on a rainy day. I’d still say that best time to visit is on a warm summer’s day, however.

There are many photo opportunities here, places where you can pose for a nice picture. If you don’t have a friend with you, you’ll need help from a stranger to take a picture or two, but these spots can also be nice for couples seeking some romantic pictures.

If you aren’t looking for selfies, there are also many sculptures and art pieces representing cultures and nature from around the world. These include deer, boats, and Maoi heads that see no evil. It’s yet another example of Dalat’s love for art.

At one end of the site there is a dam against the lake that controls the flow of water into the river. It’s an impressive construction and, while not really part of the attraction, is still a feature worth visiting.

You can also get lucky and see some local wildlife here. I wasn’t so lucky, but I did come across a couple of ducks on my way out of the site.

If you are looking to see some sculptures, or to take some cute photos with a partner, this not-so-secret garden is worth the ride out.
