Ta Keo is thought to be the only temple built entirely out of sandstone. Like Baphuon, it is another temple mountain, though this one is smaller than Angkor Thom’s temple. This was my first stop after leaving Angkor Thom.
The tuk tuk drove us to the east of Angkor Thom, and dropped us at a long dirt path. As with many temples, visitors have to put in some work before they get to see what secrets they hold.
My guide want to save his feet, so he waited as I put the effort in to explore the temple. I went in to explore the ruins and to climb another mountain. At the lowest level there are a couple of libraries, also build from sandstone.
Unlike Baphuon, you are allowed to climb to the top of this one, and can climb the original sandstone steps. At the top there are four towers that once contained linga and statues. From here I was able to look back along the path leading to the temple.
Of course, I had to go back down the steps and back along the path. I met my guide along the way, and we returned to the tuk tuk that would take us to our next destination.
